Rainbow of Colors

Last Saturday was just one of those fantastic days....... I woke up to very calm weather, I made a few cups of coffee and just felt great.

I walked outside and the first thing I noticed was how clear my vision was, I could see the detail of the mountains across the lake.

It was just one of those rare days, my head was clear and I really enjoyed writing in the blog....maybe I over  did it a bit, but that was because it felt so good to just let my brain run and share with my readers.

I got out on the road a bit late, but that was ok, I was having a great day and I had the VW car show to look forward to.

I took the long way around getting there and just enjoyed the ride, even rolled the windows down and took in the warm yet cool  fresh air into the truck. I stopped off at the casino just north of Henderson and grabbed a quick $7 buffet for breakfast. Even out of Las Vegas the food was pretty good and I got a chance to admire the care the "in view" chief took making a simple amulet, he was working behind a glass wall and you could watch him make your custom personal breakfast or you could go through the line.....everything I tried was good with just the exception of the fried chicken.

I got a good photo of an old Dodge truck that I thought you might enjoy

I know I did!!

I also stopped off for gas and there was a small group of high end sports cars getting ready to head out for a drive around Lake Mead.....one of the cars was owned by the instructor of a race driving school.....bet they had fun.

I got just 2 photos of these guys.....hope Jayden my grandson who prefers these cars than the old school hotrods I usually prefer likes these.....my old cars scare him????

I'm not sure what they were....they all look the same to me...lol

Can't say I do not like cars like this though.....I do have a Chrysler Crossfire that I absolutely love to drive, and it's one of my favorite cars to just sit and look at too.

I drove over to Boulder for the Invasion of the Dam show.....I had not been to Boulder for about 3 decades and it sure has changed......like Park City Utah it has made a pretty good switch from old hard working base camp to tourist trap...... sounds bad.....I found it to be the kind of place that would make a great place to spend the day with nice streets, nice restaurants , antique stores and much more.

I did not get out for any of that or even for photos.....but I would like to share a bit of my personal history with Boulder......my parents lived here when I was born. I was born at the Henderson Hospital, but they lived in one of the little home the government had built for the workers on the Hover Dam. As I drove around I saw some really small older homes and I was just imagining they had lived in one old homes.

Well now for the show.....here is my favorite car of the whole show...

The color was so intense and I just love the whole idea of a speedster....here are more of the same car

This little topless baja was another one of my favorites and is a lot like what I have considered  building, not much I would do differently........I figure in stead of putting my best efforts into one like this, I want to put all my best efforts into Bob, my 66 Anglia Panel truck on a VW pan and set up like a baja..

Any way here is the topless wonder bug.......

The rest of the photos are no particular order.....hope you enjoy them.

This little guy was for sale at a very reasonable price   $2500

There was a small swap meet across the street and I heard one of the vendors complain there were too many cars???????

One thing I noticed was how few off road VW there were....I talked to the thing owner and he told me there just aren't many off road bugs in Vegas anymore......I did see a few and also this was a car show and not a race....

This very nice Thing was there on the street....very nice and it sounded pretty strong....liked it a lot!

This was in the swap met area.....he was asking for offers.....I don't think I could afford the tires!!!

Oval windows.....the small oval rear window tells me it is at least a 1957 or older, but not too old.....the earliest bugs had 2 smaller windows.

If you look close you can see the gray split window between the yellow Ghia and the black bug.....when I was a kid these things were so cheap they were almost free.....

Even a few water cooled vws showed up, I did not let that spoil my good times.....lol

All you need to be a show car........ is the right attitude!!!!

SHOW MODE !!!!

One reason to get an older bug is the little things like this cool dash......who in their right mind would change this one.......stupid engineers!!!  I love that chrome grill.

We can tell this car is in Nevada by the cat house red decor   ,)

Here is a Porsche engine, the fan shroud is much different than a vw......much better looking too !!

I wanted a close up of this part.....gives me a change to brag on one of my first hot rods.......it was a 1942 Ford 1/2 ton with a bit of custom changes like a custom floating grille, Studebaker rear fenders, tuck and roll upholstery and brown metal flake paint just like this.....it was a fun truck, I miss it....but then again I miss lots of old cars I sold over the years.....bake to the show...

I met the owner of this little green bug...it was nice....not the best of the show....but the owner was so upset that he did not get a trophy.....POOR SPORT....who cares if you never come back.....be good sports folks, it's about having fun!!!!

This barn find was a running car....got to love this guy sense of humor !!!!

I have many more photos, but now that my camera is acting up, I'm using my cell phone.

I think the quality of the photos is pretty good as long as my vision is clear enough for me to see what it is focusing on....lol....sorry for the out of focus photos that slip by.

It is a very drawn out and frustrating process getting the photos moved from my phone to my laptop....I first must email them to myself.....no more than 2 photos at a time or they get lost in space.....

I then have to down load them and then move them into my files where I can then down load them into my blogger account.....there I must be careful not to download more than 3 or 4 photos at a time.....

Then today for some reason I had troubles with the blogger site....I would download photos and save them into the blog only to find my blog was missing all my hard work.....I just re did this for the 3rd time.....I've been working on this for about 8 hours......but it's all worth it if you enjoy it!!!

My drive home included included a stop at the marina for a nice shower and a few photos.....

My next blog will have more photos of the car show, my drive around Lake Mead....maybe even a photo of my shower.....who knows!!!!!

God Bless
